Adult Education – ‘Outstanding’

Following OFSTED’s visit to Learn for Life as part of their inspection of Lifelong Learning we are pleased to announce that adult education was awarded ‘Outstanding‘.

Congratulations to all our tutors and many thanks to our students who made them feel welcome during their day at the centre!

Being awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating in these categories puts Sheffield amongst the top performing local authorities in the country for adult learning and supporting people with high needs.

Multiply

Over the summer we have been running Multiply courses to support adults to engage with Maths and Numeracy. We have covered topics such as “My Green World”, “Money on my Mind” and “My Energy”. Here are a few photos from this week’s sessions. If you would like to join email info@learnforlifeenterprise.com

“Multiply is the new national programme, thanks to a £7.2 million investment by South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, from the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund, that focuses on improving adult numeracy skills and confidence.

Forming part of the Government’s Skills for Life initiative; the free courses and initiatives are designed to build confidence with numeracy at work and home and will provide a range of skills; from helping individuals understand their personal finances to supporting children with maths homework, and are available to local residents on either a part time or intensive, full-time basis.”

End Digital Poverty Day

On the 12th September Hayley will be speaking at the Digital Poverty Alliance’s End Digital Poverty day:

Community-led digital inclusion support: National Digital Inclusion Network

The recent House of Lords report highlighted the importance of community-based digital inclusion support, just like the support offered by thousands of organisations that make up the National Digital Inclusion Network.

At this session Louise Branch from Good Things Foundation and Hayley Nelson from ambassador hub Learn for Life will talk about:

– The many different ways community hubs support people to access the digital world

Why community based support is essential to reaching people who face digital exclusion

– How being part of a national network benefits digital inclusion hubs

Catch up by watching it here.

Thank you National Device Bank

Thank you so much to Good Things Foundation National Device Bank for donating laptops and tablets with internet data for us to distribute. The devices are going to individuals who do not have a suitable device and are from a low income household. We’ve had a lot of happy tears and smiles this week!

Tour of Graves Gallery

Today we had an exclusive tour of Graves Gallery. Many thanks to Jess from Sheffield Museums for showing us around! 😊 More photos are on our Facebook page.

Fix The Digital Divide Event

We had a fantastic day at the House of Lords for Good Things Foundation‘s #FixTheDigitalDivide event. There was lots of sunshine, smiles and inspiration. It was great to catch up with Good Things Foundation staff, partners, fellow Ambassadors and Digital Inclusion Hubs. It was also lovely to see Learn for Life Enterprise images being featured throughout the Cholmondeley Room.

Millennium Galleries Tour

Today we were given a tour of the Millennium Galleries where we saw the new Dutch Flowers exhibition. Thank you to Jess for showing us around.

Dennis and his friends, who were lovingly created by Scraithwood TARA, have now arrived at the Centre for Comprehensive Rehabilitation of Children and Youth with Disabilities in the Obolon District, Kyiv in Ukraine. Read the story so far on our previous post.

In Kyiv they are being distributed to children and baby shelters. The children are very happy with their new friends:

English Language Night

The Treehouse board game cafe hosted an English Language night for Learn for Life students last week. It was a great success and everyone enjoyed playing the games.
