Christmas is coming…

After coming on work experience at Learn for Life Staceyleigh and her friends decided they wanted to do more to help refugees and asylum seekers who studied with us. They have been busy fundraising with help from the Salvation Army and today brought a car full of gifts for our students and Learn for Life. Thank you Staceyleigh, it is very much appreciated!

In Memory of Beth

It is with great sadness that we have to tell you that Beth, who has been volunteering at Learn for Life for over 7 years, passed away on 3rd November. Beth was an amazing person, full of fun, kindness, love, joy and personality. She was beautiful both on the outside and inside with a big heart. She gave so much to Learn for Life and we will always treasure and remember her. We all miss her very much as she leaves a big hole in our Learn for Life family. Our thoughts are with all her family, friends, students and everyone who knew her.

Visit from the High Sheriff of South Yorkshire

Today we welcomed Julie MacDonald who’s the current High Sheriff of South Yorkshire. There is a High Sheriff in every county in England and Wales, and their history and tradition goes back before the Norman Conquest. The Office is the oldest Royal appointment.

Julie talked to and answered questions from some of our Level 1 and 2 students this morning. Thank you for coming to see us!

Volunteer Meeting

Today we had a volunteer welcome session meeting at Learn for Life. We’ve now got 85 fantastic people volunteering at the centre helping with teaching, assisting, reception, admin, maintenance and social activities. It is wonderful to know so many people care about new arrivals to Sheffield and want to help them. Lots of people had chance to mingle, eat food, chat and share ideas. It was a productive afternoon and lots of useful things have come out of it. Here are a few photos from the session, this only represents about 50% of our volunteers. Please vote for us in the Aviva Community Fund competition to help us to develop our bespoke volunteer training package by clicking here.
